Robert Garner and Catherine Odlum, along with their team of highly  experienced and qualified primary and secondary teachers have prepared the Beyond the Thrills worksheets for schools to use when on a fun park excursion to Luna Park Sydney. Find out below how these worksheets relate to the school curriculum for the different Primary and Secondary subject areas listed.

A worksheet booklet for your excursion to Luna Park Sydney will be emailed to you once your Order Form and payment have been received by Beyond the Thrills.You can then select and photocopy the worksheets wanted for your group.

Primary:

  • SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY - curriculum-specific worksheets for students in Stages 2 & 3 explore the forces and motion of rides in a fun park - these cover contact and non-contact forces that affect the motion of objects. Students can also investigate design, construction and safety aspects involved in running a fun park - after which they might like to make a model of a fun park.
  • MATHEMATICS - the curriculum-specific worksheets (with solutions) for both Stage 2 and 3, e.g. space (3D, 2D, position, graphs), measurement (length, area, mass, temperature, time) and number (numerations, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions and decimals, money). Students will be able to practise essential mathematical skills while at Luna Park Sydney.
  • ENGLISH - curriculum-specific worksheets for Stages 2 & 3 based on Luna Park Sydney provide students with the opportunity to practise writing and expression skills they have learnt in English – such as writing a journal article, designing a brochure, designing a radio advertisement, a comprehension exercise and completing a crossword.
  • ART - each activity in these worksheets support the Visual Arts curriculum and will allow students to study first hand the artistic features found at Luna Park Sydney or nearby and to develop their artistic skills.
  • PEER SUPPORT - these are ideal for FUN DAYS or REWARD DAYS for your student - using them will allow you to claim back the GST (which the Australian Tax Office does not allow when only doing a Fun Day at a fun park).
    These curriculum-specific worksheets are designed to improve communication skills in forming and maintaining positive relationships, to help students understand the need to have self-esteem, to develop caring and respectful relationships and to recognise and respect the needs, interests, rights and values of others.

Secondary:

  • SCIENCE (7-10) ... there are 3 sets of curriculum-specific worksheets:
    * for students in Stage 4, * for students in Stage 5, * plus a more general set if doing just a 'fun day'. Teachers can select the worksheets at a level that is appropriate for their students. The worksheets relate to the syllabus ‘Physical World’ content strand and cover: kinetic/potential energy, energy conversions, inertia, gravity, ‘heaviness’, ‘weightlessness’, collisions, plus extension work on centripetal forces.
  • PHYSICS (11-12) ... these worksheets have qualitative and quantitative questions on the physics of each ride that relate to the relevant modules in the Stage 6 Physics Syllabus. Extension questions are also included - so that the physics of each ride is set in its full context. Many physics teachers find a selection of these worksheets are great for using in a Depth Study for their students while at Luna Park Sydney.
    Our Stage 6 Physics worksheets include an introduction with the excursion aims, objectives, outcomes, syllabus links and concepts covered within the worksheets.
    BIOLOGY (11-12) ... these worksheets investigate gravity and life, energy and life, inertia and life, the senses, the psychological and physiological effects of stress, sustainability and the environmental impact of a fun park, and the biology of safety in a fun park.
  • COMMERCE (7-10), BUSINESS STUDIES (11-12), GEOGRAPHY: Tourism & Sustainability  (7-12) ... a booklet of curriculum-specific worksheets is provided for using prior to, during and after your fun park excursion. These booklets each contain: aims, objectives, outcomes, and syllabus links.
  • MATHEMATICS (7-12) ... curriculum-based student worksheets and teachers' notes/solutions are supplied for each of Stages 4, 5 and 6, plus a more general set that are ideal if doing just a 'fun day'. Teachers can then select and photocopy the worksheets at a level that is appropriate for their students.
  • HISTORY (7-10) ... curriculum-specific worksheets are provided for using prior to, and when on your excursion.
  • ENGLISH (7-10) ... curriculum-based worksheets related to Luna Park Sydney are provided.
  • VISUAL ARTS & PHOTOGRAPHY (7-10) ... the activities provided support the Visual Arts curriculum and allow students to study the artistic features of Luna Park Sydney and nearby first hand, and to develop their artistic skills.
  • TECHNOLOGY (7-10) ... students will complete one of the Design Projects - each involves a planned series of steps for the achievement of a practical purpose and leads to a designed solution (product, service or environment). Students will make observations and investigate situations at Luna Park Sydney to help complete their Design Project. These cover various Focus Areas of Design from the syllabus and incorporate a variety of technologies, a Design Situation, a range of suggested activities, extension activities, plus extra notes for teachers.
